The least common type of diabetes, Type 1 Diabetes, is often found in children. Type 1 diabetes causes the body to produce little or no insulin. Insulin is found in the pancreas, and controls our levels of blood sugar. Diabetes occurs when the pancreas is not receiving the proper sugar it needs to produce the insulin. Type 1 Diabetes is a lifelong condition affecting the body that requires daily shot if insulin.
How do you know if you may or someone you know may have Type 1 Diabetes? Type 1 diabetes is much harder to diagnose than Type 2, as this form of diabetes have symptoms that develop over a short period of time, and then rapidly appear. However, the onset of the symptoms occur rapidly.
Someone with Type 1 Diabetes may experience several different symptoms. Increased thirst is a sign of diabetes. As sugar levels build in your bloodstream, fluid is taken from tissues, leaving you dehydrated and wanting to drink more. Of course as you drink more fluids you will also have an increase in the frequency of urinating.
Feeling hungry all of the time is another Type 1 Diabetes symptom. There is not enough insulin moving sugar into your body, therefore depleting muscles and organs of energy. Even after eating a meal you may find yourself still wanting more to eat. Without the pancreas producing insulin, the sugar from foods cannot reach the muscles, causing the hunger. The hungry feeling is the body’s way of telling you there is a problem.
A person with Type 1 Diabetes may notice that, despite the frequent eating they are still loosing weight. Without the insulin that they need, muscles and tissues can rapidly shrink, causing massive weight loss at a very fast pace.
Fatigue is also common, as the body becomes quickly worn without the sugar that it needs. Despite all of your attempts you may find yourself so tired getting out of the bed is hard to do.
The more serious symptoms of diabetes that signal the need of immediate medical attention include dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, flushed face, and deep, hard breathing.

I am feeling weak and have a bitter taste in my mouth whenever I eat or dring. Could I have diabetes as there are 5 family members who have dibetes. I am 66 years old.
Mrs. Bennett, you should cosult with your doctor and test for diabetes.
Thank you for this!
Could the symptoms appear very suddenly (over two days’ time)? My father has diabetes, but I am 24, of a very healthy weight and exercise every day. Yet I began feeling all these symptoms (tingling in hands and feet, very dizzy, thirsty, hungry) just last night! And they have escalated throughout the day today.
Thank you for your attention!
Best,
Samantha
Samantha, these symptoms could be due to some extreme physical activity. If you are feeling this way for the next 3-4 days you should consult with your doctor.
I have been getting very dizzy, headache, shaky, cold but sweaty, very flush, and feeling like I’m about to pass out all with in 15 min to 1/2 after drinking my morning coffee(1/2 calf, half a mug, 2 sugars). I also get this after eating anything with sugar I.E. Chocolate, breakfast cereal, but I seem to be okay with fruit, actually, it seems to help. These symptoms last about 1/2 to an hour. Lately, these symptoms have been popping up out of no where through out the day. I feel tired all day long, and my toe nails have been getting hard and brittle. I’ve always had a very big appetite however, I’ve been extremely hungry late at night the past 2 weeks. I’m a 36 yr old male, 5’9″ 190 lbs. My father has to take insulin injections every day. My mother is hypoglycemic. Any Idea’s what’s up with me?? As of today I stopped eating or drinking anything with sugar or caffeine. I have to find a doctor in my area.
I am 17 years old and underweight. My weight range should be around 125-135 and I’m 113 pounds. I have nonstop thirst and frequent urination. I get sick very easily, and seem to have majority of type 1 diabetes symptoms. My 10 year old cousin and his father both have diabetes in my family and they are the only ones diagnosed with it. I’m always tired and hungry even after a large meal. Should I see a doctor or am I being dramatic? And what would the test be for type 1 diabetes?
The past 13 days my mouth has been dry and constantly wanting fluids. I haven’t been eating as much as I used to and have lost quite a lot of weight. I’m only 20 and I fear of the sexual problems that come with diabetes.
I am 20, the symptoms ive been having include, dizzy, blurred vision, numbness of the hands and feet, excessive drinking of liquids and urination, chest pains directly over the heart, headaches, mysterious bruises all over my body, for the last month or so all i really want to do is sleep. i could sleep for a full day, wake up and still be tired and i pass out at least twice a month. im 6′ 4″ and ive lost almost a hundred lbs. which would put me right at 165lbs. My family has a long history of heart problems and diabetes. I dont know what it could be so any help would be great
