The purpose of this article, is to examine pertinent ideas and to provide information concerning Diabetes. These ideas include a definition of Diabetes the symtomology and diagnosis.
First, is the definition of Diabetes. Diabetes is a chronic condition that affects many people in the world. It is a disease where a person’s body is unable to break down and distribute insulin to the needed cells.
The next idea is the symtomology of Diabetes. If a person presents to his/her doctor with certain symptoms, then the doctor will begin the process of diagnosing Diabetes. These symptoms include, frequent urination, intense hunger, severe thirst, and weight gain. There are three types of diabetes: type one diabetes (usually developed before age 40), type two diabetes (adult onset, mainly caused by diet), and gestational diabetes (takes place only during pregnancy). Type two diabetes is the most rapidly growing form of the three types.
The chronic condition known as diabetes is diagnosed through the utilization of blood tests. Physicians use two specific blood tests, as a part of the Diabetic diagnostic protocol. Many physicians focus on the results of blood tests in which glucose levels are examined. The two main tests used to measure the presence of blood sugar difficulties are an overnight fasting, and the oral glucose test. One of the standards for diagnosing diabetes is an elevated blood sugar level after an overnight fast. The patient is instructed not to eat anything after midnight. If the patient has a glucose level above 140, after taking this test on at least two or more occasions means he/her has diabetes.
The Next test used to detect Diabetes is the Oral Glucose Tolerance Test. An oral glucose tolerance test is one that is administered in a lab, or doctor’s office. The person being tested starts the test in a fasting state. In other words, having no food or drink except water for at least 10 to 16 hours.
An initial blood sugar is drawn and then the person is provided with a drink. This drink contains a high amount of sugar in it. The person then has their blood drawn and tested for 30 minutes, for 1 hour, 2 hours, and for 3 hours after drinking the high glucose drink. In order to obtain reliable results, the person must be in good health and not have any other illnesses. Not even a cold. Furthermore, a person being going through this test should be active, not taking any medicines that could affect your blood glucose. During the morning of the test, do not smoke or drink coffee.
Additionally, during the administration of the test, it is important to lie or sit quietly. In someone without diabetes, the glucose levels in the blood rise following drinking the glucose drink. However, then the blood levels fall quickly returning to normal. On the other hand, after drinking the glucose drink a diabetic’s glucose levels rise higher than normal. Then the blood sugar reading reaches a normal level much slower than a person without diabetes does.
